BLEACHING TEETH
Men and women today desire a bleaching
treatment that whitens the teeth within their budget, time
frame and life style. There are all kinds of white teething
solutions purchased from drugstores that are applied in dental
venues or at home. Bleaching teeth is another option to whiten
your teeth that is easy and
affordable.
About Bleaching Teeth
This whitening procedure provides
moderate substantial improvement in the aesthetic appearance of
the teeth. After its application, you can immediately see its
positive result. However, it is not a permanent solution as it
needs maintenance and touch up for prolonged effect. According
to the US Food Drug Administration (FDA), this type of
application is allowed only when teeth needed to be whitened
beyond its natural color. This is applicable only to products
with bleach of hydrogen peroxide or carbamide
peroxide.
Risks in Bleaching Teeth
- Whitening teeth is safe when
procedures are followed. Here are safety concerns
associated with bleaching.
- Sensitive individuals experience
shooting pains due to teeth bleaching. Extra attention is
given to those with gum recession, cracks on teeth and
leakage due to faulty restoration. Those with sensitive
teeth are advised to use toothpaste with potassium
nitrate.
- Gums are often irritated by
bleaching; but it ceases after bleaching has stopped or
peroxide concentrate is lower.
- Bleaching does not whiten
restoration such as bonding, dental crowns or porcelain
veneer so tooth colors are not uniform which is called
Technicolor teeth.
Bleaching Teeth for a
Reason
The percentage of success in using this
type of whitening is high; however, it is not applicable for
everyone. If your teeth became yellow or stained due to age,
coffee, tea or smoking, then this is for you. Bleaching is also
effective in making light gray stained caused by flouresis,
smoking, or tetracycline. But if you have sensitive teeth,
periodontal disease or worn enamel, bleaching is not for
you.
Steps in Bleaching Teeth
Teeth bleaching, also called home
bleaching has been time-tested, effective and economical that
follows these steps.
- A dental staff makes impressions of
your teeth to fabricate a bleaching tray
appliance.
- Since the tray fits your mouth and
is very thin & lightweight, you can wear it comfortably
while you are awake or sleeping.
- With the tray, you'll receive the
bleaching materials (gel) and instructions.
- The dental staff will explain
everything which is quite simple, but very
effective.
- Results are evident when using a
stronger bleaching gel (22 percent) for only two to three
hours per day but the best results are obtained within
seven to ten days.
Work and Effect of Teeth
Bleaching
Bleach agents contain 10% carbamide
peroxide which is also known as urea peroxide. When this white
crystal gets in contact with water, it gives off hydrogen
peroxide which lightens the teeth. Lightness may last from five
to ten years depending upon activities as smoking, drinking
coffee and tea. Keep your tray in a safe place and do your
touch up periodically.
Expectations of Teeth
Bleaching
Bleaching will give your teeth a two
shape improvements. The success of the procedure is determined
by the type of stain involved and your cooperation. Bleaching
teeth is not a magic procedure for it can only change colors of
teeth from gray to lighter gray. It does not lighten artificial
materials in your teeth as resins and porcelains.
